Racing in the rain
Author - Garth Stein
Grade/Reading Level - 5-6
Have you ever wondered, “What if my dog can understand me?” Have you ever imagined you were a dog? “Racing in the Rain” is
written from the respective of Enzo, the dog. His owner’s names are Denny and Eve, and their daughter named Zoe. Eve was sick and tells Enzo to protect her. The next morning, she dies. Enzo and Denny always love to watch race car driving, and Denny knows so much about it. He becomes a professional race car driver! They love to sit on the couch and watch old tapes on their television.
Enzo is a funny, cute and lovable dog and it is fun to know what is going through his mind. Enzo likes to play with Zoe, Denny, and Eve. Enzo saves Denny from a few problems.
During this story Eve’s mom and dad want to take Zoe away from Denny because they think Denny isn’t taking good enough care of her. They end up going to court, but you will have to read the book to find out who wins.
I think this is a good book because most books aren’t from the perspective of a dog and the book is very emotional and
sad.
There is also a version of this book for adults called “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” It has the same story, but it is written with things that younger kid wouldn’t understand, and that make it more emotional.
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
